Paraná holds the fourth position in the production of wood for paper and pulp in Brazil,

accounting for 11.5% of national output.

A pioneer in large-scale forest plantations, Paraná is home to the second-largest planted area of pine in Brazil.

Currently, there are 1.17 million hectares planted with trees for commercial purposes, representing nearly 6% of Paraná’s territory.

Of this total, approximately 710 thousand hectares are planted with pine.

Paraná is the leading producer of pine for paper and pulp, accounting for 49.8% of the national production.

The state ranks second in the production value of planted forests, reaching R$ 5.1 billion (US$ 962 million).

Paraná benefits from favorable climatic conditions and competitive advantages, such as a robust logistics infrastructure, proximity to major consumer centers, the presence of research centers and universities, and significant industrial hubs.

Economic and Employment Impact

Commercially planted forests also have a notable impact on the job market. More than 42,000 workers are directly employed in forest production and the manufacture of paper and pulp in Paraná. This figure only includes direct jobs, where workers are formally registered for these specific roles. It does not account for subcontracted employees or those involved in the transportation of raw materials and finished goods, for example.
