Paraná holds the leading position in the production of wood for paper and pulp in Brazil,

accounting for 17.2% of national output.

Currently, there are 1.17 million hectares of trees planted for commercial purposes, with approximately 714 thousand hectares of pine—the largest area for this species in the country. This data is from the 2022 mapping survey conducted by the Paraná

Association of Forest-based Companies (APRE).

Commercially planted forests represent 6% of Paraná’s territory and generate US$ 846.5 million in annual revenue. This figure comes from 2022 data published by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

Paraná benefits from favorable climatic conditions and competitive advantages, such as a robust logistics infrastructure, proximity to major consumer centers, the presence of research centers and universities, and significant industrial hubs.

Economic and Employment Impact

Commercially planted forests also have a notable impact on the job market. More than 42,000 workers are directly employed in forest production and the manufacture of paper and pulp in Paraná. This figure only includes direct jobs, where workers are formally registered for these specific roles. It does not account for subcontracted employees or those involved in the transportation of raw materials and finished goods, for example. These statistics are based on data from the General Registry of the

Employed and Unemployed (Caged) as of August 2023.
